Metl-Span Panels Provide Modern Look For Renovation Of Police Training Academy
The home of the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy was in need of renovation. The metal siding on the concrete structure was failing badly. After removing the skin of the existing building and erecting new studs, more than 32,000 sq. ft. of Metl-Span CF-24 Architectural insulated panels were installed in horizontal configuration.
Located in London, OH, the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy trains 10,000 officers each year. The facility includes a dormitory, gymnasium, classrooms and administrative offices.
The renovation utilized 2” and 3” CF-24A panels finished in custom color Sleigh Bells.
Approximately 10,000 sq. ft. of panels were utilized on the gymnasium expansion. The exposed interior side of the Metl-Span panels provided a “very attractive finish, both inside and out,” according to Ed Thurston, project manager for R.W. Setterlin Building Company, Columbus, the general contractor. “The entire job went very smoothly,” said Thurston. “The panels are easy to work with and tolerances were right on so we could make long runs without modifications. The panels laid out well and the details followed. The only significant on-site work we did was to cut some of the panels in order to form wrap-around exterior corners. The finished job looks great.”
Architectural design was provided by Woolpert, Inc., Cincinatti.
Metl-Span pioneered many of the developments of insulated metal panels and continues to make significant contributions to design innovations and technology that have become industry standards.
